Dean of the White House press
By Jim MacMillan
Helen Thomas, right, with President Ford, 1976.
While watching this afternoon’s White House briefing on CNN just now, I remembered that I wanted to post something about Helen Thomas after President Obama’s first press conference a couple of weeks ago.
Thomas, 88, has covered every president since JFK – since before Obama was BORN – working mostly for UPI and now as a columnist for Hearst newspapers.
As President Obama called on Thomas, he enthusiastically recognized their “inaugural moment,” but she skipped the pleasantries and asked a question about terrorists and nuclear weapons in the Middle East.
Obama barely responded and poignantly took his next question from a reporter from the Huffington Post, but he didn’t get much of an answer to his question either. Some things never change.

Helen blew it when she referred to the “so called terrorists” in her wandering question.

No, Helen Thomas didn’t really cover Alexander the Great but I did send her some love recently too: http://is.gd/kh2M @RealtorTed
