Lance’s Big Adventure

Lance Armstrong took his troubles to the Twittersphere last weekend, reporting:

Whoa!! They just came to my room and said our truck was broken into and someone stole my time trial bike! Wtf?!? APB out to the twitterati.

His next TweetA pic of the stolen tt bike. There is only one like it in the world therefore hard to pawn it off. Reward being offered.” was linked to a twitpic showing the image above, which has now been viewed over 100,000 times.

The Trek Equinox TTX 9.9 is reportedly worth $15,000.

Next, Facebook user Rob Quigley in Sacramento launched a Facebook group called: 1 Million Citizens Looking for Lance Armstrong’s Stolen Bike, and 1,400 members were participating already, but now the bike has now been recovered by the Sacramento Police.

Police said a local resident turned in the bike, and didn’t discuss many further details, but according to Sergeant Norm Leong:

“The internet campaign made life more difficult for the robbers. All the technology involved really kept the story alive and moving. It was clear that most of the people in the community were looking for this bike. It makes it hard to transport the thing, you can’t ride it or sell it… it is that hot an item.”

Naturally, now there is a picture on Flickr showing Lance Armstrong’s recovered bike and the detective who recovered it!
