Exposure Workshop Preview: Adhan to Boston: A Call to Understanding Coming Up Short
By Jim MacMillan
Bringing Islam to the Streets of Boston
Now more than ever there is a pressing need for mutual understanding between cultures and religions. The Muslim community of Boston has both arms outstretched in such efforts, but where is the reciprocation on the part of the non-Muslims?
Meredith Klein is a sophomore at Tufts University hoping to double major in International Relations and French with a minor in Arabic. She came to college and found her passion for photography and photojournalism rather unexpectedly, and began photographing for the Tufts Daily, where she is now an Assistant Photography Editor. With her involvement in EXPOSURE, she hopes to learn more about the art and science of photojournalism, particularly as she finds it to be one of the most essential ways of promoting awareness through evoking emotional responses and rational understanding.
[EXPOSURE] is dedicated to the advancement of human rights through the instruction, promotion, and encouragement of photojournalism and documentary studies. [EXPOSURE] is a program of the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University.
I led the Exposure in Boston 2009 urban photojournalism workshop from January 3rd through January 10th. Our project will go live online soon, and I hope to present more previews in the interim. – Jim MacMillan
