Tufts/Exposure’s Boston 2009 Urban Photojournalism Workshop Update

By Jim MacMillan

It hasn’t been the easiest week of my life, but it has been on of the most rewarding.

I have been honored with the opportunity to lead an urban photojournalism for students with the Exposure Center for Photojournalism at the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University, my alma mater.

Eight students are covering a range of topics which will be featured in an online publication in the not-so-distant future. Until then, the students have been blogging behind the scenes here: http://exposureboston.blogspot.com/

Students have engaged Boston area communities in personal and intense manners, getting deeper inside every day. Each night, we gather in a crowded house near the Tufts campus to edit, crit, brainstorm, rant and otherwise workshop.

There have been all kinds of lessons for all of us, and some very long nights, but a wonderful project is beginning to emerge.

Tufts/IGL/Exposure alum Jacob Silberberg dropped in for the first few nights as well: http://www.jacobsilberberg.com/

I lead a similar Exposure workshop addressing the gun crisis in Philadelphia in 2006. That work does not have an online home except for this blog: http://exposureinphiladelphia.blogspot.com/
